We received an appeal for a 3 year old boy called Sidney who suffers from Type 1 SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) a genetic neuromuscular condition that causes muscle weakness and wasting due to the loss of motor neurons, which has confined him to a wheelchair. This illness obviously comes with a multitude of other complications, and the family are spending fortunes getting the right therapy and treatments for Sid. They have even had to fly to other countries to get the right drugs because unfortunately our NHS cannot supply them, and luckily there is a marked improvement, but it will take more time and effort, plus money to carry on for his wellbeing. Some money has been raised via Go Fund Me which has helped, but Mum Sophie has had to give up work to care for him full time. Amongst other things, the family desperately needed a new wheelchair for Sid, as he had outgrown the one he had. This wheelchair had to be tailor-made and cost well over £3,000.00 so the LTCFC decided to step in and help, with any leftover monies being put towards additional therapy sessions for as long as possible, to try and keep Sid stable and enhance his quality of life, and hopefully keep him smiling.
We are so pleased to see Sid getting around in his new wheelchair, and we continue to wish him well and look forward to future updates.
