It is with deep regret that we have to announce the sad passing of our Hon. Life President and dear friend, Bill Tyzack, BEM, on Thursday 27th April, 2017. The Hon. Chairman and Committee of the London Taxi Drivers’ Charity for Children send our sincere condolences to his wife Grace, daughter Belinda and all his family.
He was a wonderful and highly respected person and will be deeply missed by us all, but he will never forgotten as we have all learnt so much from him.
Our Committee member, Gerry Dunn, MBE, had the honour and privilege of knowing Bill for very many years and has written a few words about Bill as follows :
“I have had the pleasure of knowing Bill since 1966 when I first attended the LTFUC outing for children to Southend-on-Sea. At that time he was the Hon. Secretary and a very able and efficient one at that. Over the years both Bill and Grace have become great friends and have attended many family events. I served under Bill when he was Secretary and Chairman and also when he was Chairman of the Taxi Driver of the Year Show. Bill was one of those men who you could trust and believe in everything he did. He was proud to have been a Marine during the war and proudly served his country. He was also very supportive of me whilst I was Chairman and gave me lots of good advice, which I always took on board.
We were all thrilled when he was awarded the BEM, an award which he truly deserved.
When I visited him in the nursing home, his first question was “How is the Fund doing and what were our plans for the 90th anniversary in 2018”?. Bill lived for the Fund and the taxi trade and will be sorely missed by us all. My sincere condolences go to Grace and Belinda and also sincere condolences from my family who have grown up knowing Bill.”
Gerry Dunn, MBE
